“Our town is a surprising place with many talented people and much more going on than many first realise.“
We moved to Swindon 23 years ago when my wife Carole was approached for a senior management role at WHSmith ‘s Head Office at Greenbridge.
When we relocated, we didn’t know the town at all and were advised to live elsewhere! I’m glad to say that we ignored the advice, made up our own minds and have lived here ever since.
Having made Old Town our home, we decided to invest here, including building our studio to support my development as an artist.
Some of my most significant work has been created in Swindon, including my Movement 2000 series of paintings, Red Arrows collection and all of my Landscape Geometry pieces. Over the past decade this work has been exhibited in London, Bristol, Bournemouth, Farnborough and in the Gulf region.
Earlier this summer, I was delighted that through the Creative Wiltshire project, The Swindon Museum and Art Gallery acquired my painting ‘Beach House West of Looe’ and two early aerobots to add to their excellent collection of work. ‘Beach House’ is included in the compelling ‘Lie of the Land’ Exhibition, exploring modern British Landscapes .
In the coming weeks, I am looking forward to visiting the Wiltshire and Swindon History Centre , keen to visit another intriguing place on our doorstep and pleased that they have chosen to select a number of my aviation pieces and wider work.
Living and working in Swindon, Carole and I are constantly inspired by many people here, including many within the arts, heritage, community, business and voluntary sectors.
We are involved in a number of positive initiatives including Swindon Open Studios and encourage people to visit these in September.
Our town is a surprising place with many talented people and much more going on than many first realise.
There is plenty to discover and lots of potential, including for creative individuals and organisations.
I’ve always found Swindon to be a good place to live and I often recommend our town to people from further afield. Our location between London and Bristol works well for us.
Switch on to Swindon is a great initiative. Carole and I are both happy to give our support as fellow Switch on to Swindon Ambassadors.
Visits to our studio (and to the green shed too!) are welcome by appointment.
